Being Used of God
Every day for many years now—I have read Oswald Chambers daily devotional book, “My Utmost for His Highest”. The reading for today (September 2), was taken from John 7:38, “He who believes in Me…out of his heart will flow rivers of living water”.
Chambers said these words, “If we believe in Jesus, it is not what we gain but what He pours through us that really counts… Our spiritual life cannot be measured by success as the world measures it, but only by what God pours through us—and we cannot measure that at all… We have nothing to do with the outflow, this is the work of God. God rarely allows a person to see how great a blessing he is to others”.
Chambers goes on to say in a later writing, “We are to be fountains through which Jesus can flow as “rivers of living water” in blessing to others. Yet some of us are like the Dead Sea, always receiving but never giving, because our relationship is not right with the Lord”.
God wants to use you today to touch the lives of others. But the only way He can do this is for us to stay connected to Him. “Living water”, cannot flow through us when we allow compromise, distractions, busyness, and sin to cut off the flow.
Many years ago, I heard a pastor make this comment— “People often ask me,
‘Pastor, how can I pray for you’. My answer is always the same—pray that I will stay close and clean”.
Only when we are “close & clean”, will there be a steady flow into the lives of people around us. Allow God’s presence to flow through you today, to be a blessing to others.
