Dealing with Worry
If you want to worry less, and experience the peace of God--this verse is for you. It is an incredible verse. There is not a week that goes by that I don't quote this verse to myself. I like the way it is worded in the New Living Translation:
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus". Philippians 4:6-7
It seems strange to me that a guy in prison (Paul) writes the words, "don't worry about anything". That seems unrealistic doesn't it! WE ALL WORRY! We worry about our job, health, finances, family, school, relationships--the list could go on and on. But notice, Paul says rather than worry, pray. Paul's advice is to turn our worries into prayers. Basically Paul is saying if you want to worry less, than pray more. Look at the verse, he then tells us the two things to pray about: 1) "tell God what you need"--we are pretty good at doing this, and 2) "thank him for all he has done"-- we forget about this part. The verse goes on to say, THEN, meaning after we have done these things, we will experience the peace of God.
Would you read this verse again, slowly-- and then APPLY this verse to your life! See if it does not make a difference.
