Happy Birthday America

Words from our forefathers...

George Washington said:

"It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God and to obey His will"

Thomas Jefferson said:

"God who gave us life gave us liberty.  Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?"

Abraham Lincoln said

"I've been driven many times to my knees by the over-whelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go"

A person cannot read these words and doubt that most of our early leaders were believers and had a strong conviction about their faith.  Over the last 50+ years, the USA has gradually moved away from the teachings of the Bible.  People only want to talk about, "love",  "acceptance",  "tolerance".  That is all fine and good.  But the Bible also talks about other subjects that are not popular, like,  "sin",  "judgment", "accountability".

The Bible does give us a verse that was written to believers-- and this verse can change the direction our nation is going. The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14..."If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will hear their land".

Sometime during this holiday weekend, let me encourage you to take a few moments and pray for our country.  James 5:16 talks about the impact of prayer,  "...the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective".
