One of My Favorite Verses

The verse only has 16 words—but they are powerful words.  This one small verse has three of the most important principles in all of life.  It seems like the Bible can truly “pack a punch” in just a few words, and this one verse has it.  I guarantee you, if all of us could live by this one simple verse—life would be much more enjoyable.  The verse is found in Psalm 118:24.  “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it”.  Notice this verse talks about three things:

1)      Focus on today   (This is the day…)  It is so easy to dwell on the past or to worry about the future.  In doing this, we miss the opportunities of the day.  You can’t change the past, and the future is uncertain—today needs to be our focus.  Satan wants you to dwell on the past—your past failures, disappointments, heartaches, difficulties, or lost opportunities.  Satan also wants you to be anxious about what lies ahead.  Resist the temptation to dwell on these two things—remember, our God is always a God of the “present”, focus on today.

2)     Focus on the Lord  (…the Lord has made)  Is our focus on the problem or the problem-solver.  Throughout this one day that God has given you—make Him your priority.  I love that verse in Psalm 25:15,  “My eyes are ever on the Lord”.  The words of that little chorus is so true and so powerful—“turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace”.

3)     Focus on a right attitude (…let us rejoice and be glad)  It is so easy to find something negative in just about every situation.  Something at work, church, school, or in your family. All of us would rather be around a person who is positive, up-beat, and optimistic toward life.  Remember—your attitude is contagious.

Let’s keep our focus on these three things—
